The Story

From daring first flights to the dawn of civilian air travel, Breitling’s history has been inseparable from that of aviation. In the 1930s, the brand’s Huit Aviation Department earned a reputation for inventing highly precise cockpit instruments. Two decades later, Breitling launched the Ref. 765 AVI — a wristwatch designed as a flight instrument. Today, the Classic Avi collection draws inspiration from the fearless spirit of early aviators who took to the skies when flight was still in its infancy. The Classic Avi Chronograph 42 YOSHI MUROYA Limited Edition is dedicated to Japan’s leading air race pilot, Yoshi Muroya, and the fans who support him. The dial features a deep indigo blue — reminiscent of kachi-iro, the traditional victorious color used in air race planes — contrasted with black subdials for a bold, refined look. Large Arabic numerals on the dial and bezel ensure exceptional legibility, while the red chronograph seconds hand offers instant visibility. The 42 mm case is equipped with a notched bezel, providing optimal grip even with gloves. On the caseback, the engraved kanji character “義 (Gi)”, symbolizing honor and righteousness, accompanies the limited-edition marking “ONE OF 50” — a tribute to the proud spirit of this samurai pilot. Customers can choose between a stitched calfskin leather strap or a distinctive metal bracelet with angled links. This chronograph is a celebration of aviation’s storied legacy and a modern-day tribute to one of its heroes.
