The Story

Breitling’s iconic pilot’s chronograph – the Navitimer – was born in 1952 when Willy Breitling created a wrist-worn chronograph with a circular slide rule, allowing pilots to perform essential flight calculations. The watch quickly became the official timepiece of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), earning its name from “navigation” and “timer. Since then, the Navitimer has become the de facto standard for pilot watches, beloved by aviators and aviation enthusiasts alike. But its appeal extended far beyond the cockpit. Celebrities such as Miles Davis and Serge Gainsbourg were drawn to its irresistible blend of function and style, making it a true icon of its time. This Japan Limited Edition, released in 2025, features a striking black mother-of-pearl dial—its mysterious, moonlit shimmer reminiscent of clouds drifting through a night sky. No other material delivers such depth and nuance. Inside beats the in-house Breitling Caliber 01 chronograph movement, visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. It’s a timepiece that celebrates the past while embracing craftsmanship at the highest level.
