The Story
The Superocean Heritage collection traces its origins to two groundbreaking Breitling dive watches introduced in 1957: the Ref. 1004, a sleek time-only piece, and the Ref. 807, the world's first dedicated diving chronograph. From the very beginning, these models stood apart from other dive watches of the era by pairing technical performance with genuine elegance—featuring arrow-shaped hour hands, spear-shaped minute hands, an anodized rotating bezel, and naturally proportioned cases.
The Superocean Heritage Automatic 36 carries that philosophy into the present. Its 36 mm case preserves the refined proportions of the original 1957 references and suits a wide range of wrist sizes, while the ceramic-inlay unidirectional bezel, signature arrow-and-spear hands, and discreet date window at 6 o'clock remain faithful to the collection's identity. Made to move effortlessly between the waves and the waterfront.
No, the Superocean Heritage Automatic 36 requires no battery. The Calibre 10 is a self-winding mechanical movement: a rotor inside the case winds the mainspring through the natural motion of the wrist during everyday wear.
If left unworn for more than approximately 42 hours (its full power reserve), the watch will stop. To restart, wind the crown clockwise 20–30 turns manually, then set the time and wear normally. The movement cannot be overwound—an automatic slip-clutch mechanism prevents excess tension.
For long-term care: rinse with fresh water after sea or pool exposure, avoid operating the crown while submerged, and have water resistance re-tested every 2–3 years or after any impact. Breitling recommends a full movement service every 4–5 years.
The Superocean Heritage Automatic 36 is designed for anyone who prefers a refined, versatile case size—it sits naturally on smaller wrists while remaining equally elegant on larger ones.
At 36 mm in diameter and 10.42 mm thick, with a lug width of 18.05 mm, it is the most slender and understated model in the Superocean Heritage line. The screwed-in caseback and screw-down crown provide the same 200 m water resistance as the larger variants, ensuring it is a genuine tool watch in a refined package.
Compared with the 42 mm and 44 mm models in the collection, the 36 sits closest to the proportions of the 1957 originals and is equally at home dressed up or worn casually. The cambered sapphire crystal—glareproofed on both sides—adds a softly domed vintage profile without adding bulk.
