The Story

Made to move between the waves and the waterfront. The Superocean Heritage is no ordinary sea watch—it never was. When Breitling first launched it in 1957, it took a different tack from other dive watches of the era. The Ref. 1004 (a sleek time-only piece) and Ref. 807 (the world’s first dedicated dive chronograph) weren’t just about exploring the underwater world—they were about looking good doing it. The spear-and-arrow hands, anodized rotating bezel, and naturally sleek proportions made it a favorite of stylish adventurers who lived for the sea and the scene. Today, that philosophy is still at the core of the Superocean Heritage. It’s got the soul of the 1950s, but designed for today.  The latest Superocean Heritage builds on everything that made the original distinctive—and sharpens it. The collection introduces the B31 automatic movement, Breitling’s first exclusive three-hand manufacture caliber. A ceramic-inlayed bezel adds exceptional scratch resistance, while integrated mesh-metal or mesh-rubber bracelets fit snugly against the case, secured with folding clasps for a clean, watertight finish. A discreet date window at six o’clock and the original signature hands—arrow for hours, spear for minutes—ensure legibility and balance, above or below the surface.

It is a Swiss luxury dive watch from Breitling's 2025 redesign of the Superocean Heritage line, which traces its design back to the brand's pioneering 1957 Superocean. The headline news is twofold: a long-requested compact 40 mm case and, for the first time in the line, Breitling's own manufacture three-hand movement, the Caliber B31. It combines vintage-inspired diver aesthetics—a domed crystal, a unidirectional ceramic bezel and a symmetrical 6 o'clock date, with modern engineering and 200 m water resistance, making it as comfortable in the office as in the water.

This reference is a 40 mm stainless-steel case, around 11.73 mm thick, with a unidirectional rotating bezel fitted with a colored ceramic insert and Super-LumiNova hands and indexes for underwater legibility. The 40 mm is offered with black or green dials, and sits within a wider family that also includes 36 mm, 42 mm and 44 mm sizes plus a 42 mm chronograph.
Each model can be worn on a tropic-style rubber strap or a mesh steel bracelet, both echoing the line's mid-century character.

It is powered by the Caliber B31, Breitling's first exclusive in-house three-hand automatic movement, developed over several years with Sellita's high-end division. It beats at 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and offers a generous 78-hour power reserve—letting the watch continue to work after a weekend off the wrist. The B31 is officially COSC-certified, guaranteeing chronometer accuracy of -4/+6 seconds per day, and is visible through a sapphire exhibition caseback. Its arrival marks a milestone, giving the Superocean Heritage a true manufacture caliber rather than an outsourced movement.
