The Story

Breitling's unconventional chronograph with a motoring twist. A distinctive celebration of design and freedom, the Breitling Top Time Classic Cars Squad pays homage to classic sports cars from the 1960s with a trio of racing chronographs. Drawing inspiration from the Chevrolet Corvette, Ford Mustang and Shelby Cobra, the timepieces themselves are a nod to the original 1960s Breitling Top Time models, which were designed for “young and active professionals”. Today’s modern-retro interpretations are perhaps even more youthful and free-spirited. In the early 1960s, the Le Mans winner Carrol Shelby imagined a car that combined British chassis design with American racing engineering. He created the Shelby Cobra, a sportscar that ingeniously matched a small, light chassis to a strong, reliable American big block engine. When it was introduced in 1962, the Cobra met with instant success. The original Shelby Cobra remains a blisteringly fast and thought-after car until today. Featuring a 40-millimetre stainless-steel case matched to a brown racing-themed calfskin leather strap, the Top Time Shelby Cobra features red and light-blue details on its blue dial and the Shelby Cobra logo both on the dial and the caseback. The Top Time Shelby Cobra is powered by the Breitling Caliber 41, a COSC-certified chronometer.
