User tips and maintenance

Like any valuable object and precision instrument, Breitling watches require particular care in terms of their use and maintenance. The tips listed here will enable you to prolong their lifespan, ensure an optimal functioning and preserve their beauty.

Cleaning

When cosmetics or perspiration and dust are deposited on a watch case or metal bracelet, skin irritations might occur, and in the long term, oxidation of the steel. To avoid these deposits, clean the metal bracelet periodically using a toothbrush and liquid soap, rinse it under a gentle, thin stream of water and dry it with an absorbent cloth. The watch case can be cleaned with a humid cloth (or gently rinsed when the model is intended for aquatic activities) and shall be dried as well.

Leather straps

Like all leather objects (shoes, bags, etc…) leather straps need to be cared for to maintain their beauty in the long term. Protect leather straps from water, perspiration, damp, grease, perfume, cosmetics or chemicals, and avoid excessive exposure to the sun. The use of Breitling’s care kit (available from brand retailers) will help increase the lifespan of leather straps and maintain their look and their supple feel. If the leather is splashed, absorb the liquid immediately with a cloth.

Rinsing

Following every immersion in chlorinated or salt water (provided your model is intended for aquatic activities), carefully rinse your watch-head and your metal bracelet under a gentle, thin stream of water and dry it with an absorbent cloth. Leather straps are not intended to be used in a very humid or wet environment; if the leather is splashed, absorb the liquid immediately with a cloth.

Choice of strap/bracelet

Leather does not like water. For aquatic activities, very humid or damp places, or climates that result in frequent perspiration, a metal bracelet or rubber strap is more appropriate.
